ZL1 Chevy Aluminum Engine Block Repair
This is a damaged 1969 Can. Am. Chevy ZL1 Alum. Engine Block. Two broken rods blew out both cylinder walls all over the race track. We will use A356 Alum. Casting blanks to make new replacement pieces. Go to our how we do it page to see the parts we make.
I made new Al. Plates and Cyls. to repair this ZL1 Al. Engine Block.

We digitized an identical ZL1 Al. Engine block. Our new engine block side plate was C.N.C. machined from this digitized tool path. We made new cylinders from the cast blanks. See How We Do It for details.
Ferrari 330 Aluminum Engine Block
This Damaged Ferrari 330 Alum. Engine Block will be restored to new condition. We will build a fixture to hold the broken parts in place. We Preheat Damaged Alum. Engine Blocks in our 100 cu. ft. C. N. C. El. Element Furnace. Preheating reduces distortion and annealing.
We repair many Ferrari 330 Alum. Engine Blocks. Many Ferrari 330 engine blocks crack.
These cracks occur around the belhousing area. I will cut out the 2 cracks. Then I will preheat the block to 275°F. We will T.I.G. weld this damaged Ferrari 330 engine block. After welding, the block will return to the furnace. A controlled cool-down cycle helps reduce residual stress.
Ferrari Daytona Aluminum Engine Block
This Ferrari Daytona Al. Engine Block broke 2 connecting rods while idling at a traffic light.
The tow truck driver swept up the damaged pieces of metal. He threw everything in the trash.
We keep A356 Al. heat treated ingot in stock.
I cut and fit new replacement parts.
These pieces are tack welded in place.
This Ferrari Daytona Al. engine block is heated to 275℉.
I use A356 alloy T.I.G. welding rod to make repairs like this.
The engine builder did the finish grinding.
The finished repair is nearly undetectable.
Dart 632 C.I. B.B.C.
This Dart 632 C.I. Big Block Chevy broke a connecting rod.
You can see the water passage is broken too.
I made this weld repair in 2001.
I am using a .0015 feeler gauge.
I am checking to see if my welding distorted the main housing bore.
The housing bores appeared to be very straight.
A dial bore gauge inspection showed less than .0005 distortion.
In 2017? This engine broke the crankshaft, connecting rods and camshaft.
The owner had to buy a new Dart632 Al. Engine block.
1923 Alfa Romeo Al. Engine Block
-This 1923 Alfa Romeo Engine has a broken corner mount.
This is the oldest Al. casting I welded. I have not been able to weld repair British, French and American Al. Castings this old.
I made this repair in 1978.
